Christ Church in Dohnavur was built in 1848. The great Missionaries
like Emi Carmichael and Thomas Walker with the help of Rhenius Iyer
developed this christian village by their sacrificial Service. This
village had a hospital, an orphanage and postal services even in the
18th century. The German Count Dohna donated a huge sum to develop this
village and hence christianed as Dohnavur. Rev.Thomas Walker started a
school named Walker Higher Sec. School which is now being run by C.S.I
Thirunelveli Diocese.
It is a very famous Church and it was constructed by the CMS Missionary Rev. C.T.E.Rhenius with help of his friend Count Dohna. That’s the place called as Dohnavur. God dwells in this Holy Church and answers all the people’s prayer
